Acetilcysteine is indicated for the treatment of respiratory disorders characterized by dense and viscous hypersecretion, such as acute bronchitis, chronic bronchitis and their exacerbations, tobacco bronchitis (bronchitis originating from cigarettes), pulmonary emphysema, bronchopneumonia (inflammation in the lungs), pulmonary abscesses (accumulation of pus), pulmonary atelectasis (closing of the bronchi), mucoviscidosis (hereditary disease that produces thick mucus, also known as cystic fibrosis) and others. It is also indicated for accidental or voluntary paracetamol intoxication.
